Sturdy, high-tensile aluminum vise for tuning all types and shapes of skis

Secure the vise to a sturdy table or solid work surface. The supports should be spaced so they provide support while not allowing the ski to over flex.

Using the supplied brake retainers, secure the brakes in the up position. Place the ski on the supports and center it from side to side. For additional security, clamp the smaller black clamp to your bench or work surface under the toepiece. Place the rubber triangle around the toe piece and hook to the clamp.

For working on the side edge, lift and turn the ski 90 degrees, keeping the base away from you, and place into the center jaws.

Instructions of Use
Connect the appliance to compatible voltage as indicated on the name plate (110V). As with any appliance, never leave unattended while plugged into the power supply and unplug when not in use. Do not use near flammable products. Keep out of reach of small children and pets. Do not attempt to make any repairs or modifications to the appliance. For repairs during the warranty period, return the appliance to the retailer where it was purchased.

THIS APPLIANCE IS DESIGNED EXCLUSIVELY TO WAX SKIS AND SNOWBOARDS. ALL CLAIMS FOR DAMAGE RESULTING FROM OTHER USES WILL BE DENIED.

Temperature Settings
The correct temperature setting depends on many factors, including the type of wax, ambient temperature of the room and base. The temperature setting is correct when no smoke is produced while melting the wax on the sole of the iron. As a general rule, softer wax melts at lower temperatures while harder waxes melt at higher temperatures.

Cleaning the wax plate:
Unplug the appliance from the power supply. Using a towel, wipe clean the sole of the iron, and clean it often to avoid buildup of excess wax.

CAUTION: WHEN THE PLATE IS HOT THERE IS A DANGER OF BURNING HANDS AND FINGERS. DO NOT TOUCH EITHER THE WAX PLATE OR LIQUID WAX WITH YOUR BARE HANDS.

The EASY SHARP is available with 3 different tools for easy maintenance of side edges. The TRIZACT tool is used to clean rusty edges while removing rock burrs. The FILE sharpens and bevels the edges while removing damaged areas. The DIAMOND is used to finish the edge, removing the small burr formed during filing, and leaving the edge smooth and sharp.

Make sure your tools are clean before you start, and replace any that have become worn and dull. The TRIZACT and DIAMOND tools are multidirectional and can be placed in the holder any way.
The FILE is directional and can only be used in the direction of the arrow. Choose the proper angle and use the TRIZACT tool first. Make long overlapping strokes until all rust is removed.

Next, insert the file and use the same method to remove edge material until fresh, clean metal shows along the entire length of the edge. You can use a magic marker and color the entire width of the edge. When all the color has been removed during filing, the edge is at the same bevel as the tool used. After using the FILE, use the DIAMOND tool to remove any striations and further polish the edge.

Starting at the tip of the ski/board, the gummi stone should be run at a 45 degree angle for up to 4� to 8� (10 to 20 cm) past the contact point. Making multiple passes, reducing the length of the stroke each time, feather the edge from the tip to the set bevels.

Run the gummi stone from tip to tail to deburr and repeat the detune process in the tail. The further down the ski/board the detune is applied the more forgiving the ski/board becomes. This allows for smoother initiation and easier release of the turn. The shorter the detune the more aggressive the ski/board becomes.

The more the edges are detuned the less effective the side cut is on the shape of the turn. After tuning the edges there will be a burr that has developed and it must be removed.

Note: Even the most carefully prepared skis/boards will lose their ability to turn smoothly if not properly deburred.

Drip candles provide base repair material for repairing scratches and damage to the base on skis and snowboards.

Deep gouges which penetrate the base material to the core or run along the steel edges or which cover large areas need to be repaired by a qualified
WINTERSTEIGER repair shop.

Caution: Before starting the process of dripping P-Tex, make sure any flammable cleaners are stored off of the workbench in a safe area. Any rags that were used with flammable cleaners should also be removed from the bench.

Carefully sharpen the end of your repair candle to a pencil point so it will light easier. Light the propane torch and hold the repair candle above the flame. Keep spinning the candle between your fingers until it lights and starts to drip. Move the candle over your plastic scraper and hold it close enough so the flame burns blue, but not so close that it goes out.

Keep the candle spinning between your fingers to reduce the buildup of unsightly carbon that not only looks bad in the repair, but weakens the bond as well. If carbon does start to appear, move the candle back to the plastic scraper and dab it off.

Take your time and let the P-Tex flow into the gouges slowly, making sure to completely fill any areas that need repair. Going slowly will also let the base preheat and accept the repair material better. If the P-Tex on the base continues to burn, blow out the flame so the base does not overheat.

Deeper gouges can be filled by making multiple passes, but allow the layers to cool. After the repairs have cooled to room temperature, remove the excess material with a sharp metal scraper.

Note: If you have problems with the repair pulling out during scraping, the area was not clean enough or the repair was not allowed to cool long enough. You can also get P-Tex to adhere to the base better if you first heat the base with a heat gun.

To remove excess repair material from the base

After the repair material has cooled completely, use the metal scraper to remove the excess material and blend the repair into the base.

Place the scraper on the base and grasp firmly, placing your forefingers on the leading face of the scraper and your thumbs near the rear bottom corners.

Tilt the scraper slightly forward and push it down the ski or board removing the repair material in thin, even sheets until the base looks smooth.

Citrus Base Cleaner

For removing grease, adhesives and for cleaning

The best Citrus Cleaner available on the market today! The organic extract used in this formulation makes this base cleaner very easy to use. Use as a replacement for dangerous chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents. This product is non-corrosive and contains petroleum and fruit distillates. Use full strength for removing grease, adhesives and cleaning.

Cleaning the Ski/Board: Always take the time before tuning to clean both the top sheet and base. Use a cloth with a small amount of base cleaner to remove dirt and built-up debris from the sides and top sheet. Don�t forget to clean the ski/board again after the tune up to remove any built-up wax from the sidewalls and edges. Make sure to avoid getting base Cleaner on the base once the tune is complete. Using base cleaner, thoroughly clean the base, removing any built-up wax and dirt.

For race skis, you may choose to use the hot scrape method to clean the base. Use a soft wax which will penetrate the base and remove any dirt. While the wax is still hot, scrape it off completely.

Directions: Scrape off old ski wax with a sharp plastic scraper. Wipe the base with a WINTERSTEIGER Base Cleaner-moistened cloth and allow to soak for 30 to 60 seconds. Wipe the base down with a dry cloth to remove old wax and dirt. Allow base to dry before waxing.

Note: When base cleaner is used to clean the base, the ski or snowboard will need to be waxed after the base cleaning work is performed. An unprotected base will dry out and oxidize.

Warning: Combustible material. Keep away from heat and open flame. Do Not Smoke when working with base cleaner.

To remove cooled wax from the base

After the wax has cooled to room temperature, any excess must be scraped off and the structure must be brushed. Always allow the wax and the ski or snowboard to cool to room temperature before scraping, otherwise the warm wax will be pulled from the pores, leaving the base dry.

Start by using a plastic scraper with a 90� edge at a slight angle. Beginning with the tip of the ski or snowboard and using long overlapping strokes, start removing excess wax from the base. Repeat until all of the wax is removed from the base. Make sure any wax that may have dripped down the sidewalls is removed as well. After the wax is scraped from the base it should then be brushed for optimal performance.

After scraping, use the brush to expose the structure. Remember, it is the wax in the pores that helps improve glide, not the wax on the base or in the structure.

Choose a stiff brush if a hard wax was applied or a medium-hardness brush if a soft wax was used. Brush the base from tip to tail until no more wax is removed from the structure.

Next, use a soft nylon brush to get deep into the structure to remove any remaining wax.
Finish with a horsehair base brush to remove any static charge from the base.
